Collections Summit and P&T Workshop
I spent most of this week at the University Park campus for two meetings. The first was on Wednesday for a collections summit. There were 39 attendees representing different parts of the university libraries. Effective July 1, 2011 we are reorganizing. This is an opportunity for us to rethink a lot of things, including our approach to collection development. I think it was a productive meeting. I'll look forward to seeing what changes are made to the process and administration.
Thursday and Friday were the Tenure & Promotion Workshop. I'm a member of the faculty affairs committee, and we're responsible for planning the event. We settled on sessions for Thursday afternoon and Friday morning. Thursdays agenda included an introduction by our fabulous dean, Barbara Dewey, some discussion of the journal review process, and selecting and identifying non-library venues for presentations and publications. On Friday morning Dr. Blannie Bowen, Vice Provost for Academic Affairs provided an overview of the tenure and promotion process, then we had updates on the Digital Measures software and a panel session on documenting the impact of your work in the librarianship criteria of the dossier.
It was a good trip. I didn't get to spend nearly enough time with everyone.
